Reviews of Wolverine Origins for www.loganfiles.com, by Jesse M. Huertas

Grading Guide:

Better than Life Itself: It must be in your collection for eternity
Definite Read!: A great read from front to finish
Not bad, but not great: A decent read worth the asking price
Well, it’s not the worst: Only for diehards…even then
Where’s my Pistol?: Titles like this make you question your hobby!

Wolverine Origins #1 (April 2006)

Following the revelations of House of M, the biggest development to Wolverine occurred since X-Men #25 when he lost his Adamantium. Story possibilities opened up that promised great things in the future of the ol’ canucklehead. Soon enough Wolverine Origins is upon us by the creative team of Daniel Way and Steve Dillon. “Born in Blood” is a direct continuation of “Origins & Endings” featured in Wolverine’s main title issues #36-40. Wolverine is now equipped with a demon sword, the famed Muramasa and is on a quest for revenge against everyone that did him wrong in his 100+ years of existence.

Instead of opening with a bang, the title fell flat on its back, the story telling is very oblique and doesn’t give the reader any idea of Wolverine’s mission, nor any insight into Wolverine’s past. Steve Dillon on the pencils, while neat, just doesn’t match Wolverine nor the intensity and feel of the covers (drawn by Joe Quesada). The colors don’t work as well; every thing is bright and colorful as opposed to grim and gritty which a story like this ought to be. While Way seems to have a great plan ahead of him, the beginning to what should be one of Marvel’s most marquee title just left a sour taste on the tongue of this Wolverine fan.

Rating: Well, it’s not the worst
