Variety reports that 20th Century Fox has chosen May 1, 2009 — the familiar, and profitable, first official weekend of summer — to release X-Men Origins: Wolverine.
That’s right, the spin-off now has a confirmed title.
Wolverine, starring Hugh Jackman and directed by Gavin Hood, will begin shooting later this year in Australia before moving to New Zealand and then to New Orleans. The trade paper notes that the latter location could mean the inclusion of Gambit in the storyline which, as the title suggests, deals with Wolverine’s early years.
According to Variety, Liev Schrieber is reportedly in final talks to play the younger version of William Stryker, portrayed in X2 by Brian Cox.
Wolverine is expected to feature many mutants, some new to the movie franchise and some from the previous three installments.

Thanks Mark! The May 2009 date makes more sense than the fall 2008 benchmark I'd heard before.
I have no idea why they'd try to shoehorn Gambit into Wolverine's pre-X-Men past when they didn't have any place for him in three X-Men movies. Two hours is barely enough time to scrach the surface of Wolverine's Weapon X days without adding characters that don't belong.

GETTY UP!!! sooo freakin pumped for this.
As for Gambit in the Wolverine movie, it doesn't make sense nor does it line up when the title of the movie has "Origins" in it, WOlverine and Gambit didn't meet until he joined the X-men

WOlverine and Gambit didn't meet until he joined the X-men Unfortunately, rarely does something like that ever matter in Hollywood.

case in point, Ang Lee's Hulk movie. But Gavin Hood is a really good director and Hugh Jackman knows the character..and i have a feeling this movie is going to rock.

Really! I can't wait too!
I think that it's not wery good thing to try to add Gambit somehow in this movie. In worst case it could get too gonfusing to watch that. After all like you all told ^^ Gambit really doesn't fit to title X-men origins: Wolverine.
Now, I'm counting on those who are doin' this movie. They're good, and know what are doing, so they won't screw that one up. ;D

X3 wasn't a flop by any means, but to me it didn't even come close to X2 and X1.. but that is because of the director..Brett sucks

So does anyone have new info about the film? Lil' bit. Can't say how accurate these tips are though, but this is what has been rumoured from sites I usually trust. James Vanderbilt (who will be writing Spider-Man 4) has been brought in to do a treatment of Benioff's script... Kodi Smit-Mcphee will be playing the young Logan... A set has been built called the 'Hudson Barn' - take from that what you will...

So we shall lay back and see what's coming next then ;D Oh yeah. There's not a chance they weren't going to make another one after the whole heap of money SPIDER-MAN 3 made them. I had lots of problems with the first two X-MEN movies, but they were entertaining and true enough to the spirit of Wolverine that they could be forgiven. THE LAST STAND was really just an awful film as far as I'm concerned.

they better not screw it up, it can't be worse than X3 X3, the movie itself wasn't so bad, it's just the way they pulled off the whole phoenix thing, in the movie, she's basically just Jean's 'alter ego' or something along that line. What happened to the fire bird that saves the universe?

the script i'm not sure of why it wasn't all that great..but the way the movie was done via the director Bret Retner did a bad job.
