5 Claws: A must have for your collection
4 Claws: A worthy 3 dollar spend
3 Claws: Not too crappy, yet nothing special
2 Claws: Seriously not worth your time nor money
1 Claw: This book belongs in your burn pile
This month continues Wolverine's continuous stay at the Captain America memorial looking back on his WWII encounter with Captain America. Wolverine's present situation still hasn't changed, he's still at the memorial and we are still left wondering what's up with Dum Dum, all those secret societies that were left committing suicide and hiding in jail, Cyber, Omega Red, and Condolezza Rice are still left unaccounted for...the dangling plot lines are growing and growing and not getting cleaned up. Either way, other than continue to pile on, on this title and all it's mishaps, we'll look at the issue at hand, which is chapter 3 of 5 of the arc titled "Our War". The issue starts off with Bucky punching our boy Logan down, without Logan flinching. At the end of last issue, Fury led Logan to Cap's site and they meet up, together they all seem to be headed to Djerba with all different reasons. Bucky's seem more sinster as he's on the tails of Von Strucker. Scenes shift with the men moving out towards their final destination and Logan thinking about how Bucky was also a bit like him, a merciless killer hell bent on finishing whatever mission he's involved in, whatever the consequence. Another scene with Cap explaining his 'weapon' to Fury.
The teams arrive at Djerba readying a strike at daybreak, the assault continues with Captain A. and co. cleaning house, Cap makes a chase for Bucky who went on his solo mission to get to Von Strucker and with Logan following Cap to see what Bucky's role is as ''one of them''.
That's pretty much the gist of it. Daniel Way has pretty much become the poster boy of decompression. Present day Wolvie is still stuck in some memorial attempting to get drunk; 1941 Logan is still trying to tie the knot with Cap. Three issues in and we are still in phase one. For a story that was supposed to be the ''Greatest Story Never Told" and a story ''Most requested by fans'' the only question I'm left asking was...was it YOU who asked for this damn story to take place?
It seems that we are just in an endless cycle of filler story with no real impact for Wolverine. No other writer seems to care what happens. Things just happen at random and the readers just don't feel any impact. SHIELD just dropped off the map with issue #10, so whatever 'fast paced, beat the clock' stamp we were on is all but gone, since Wolvy is just chillin at the Smithsonian. The momentum that the Annual generated has fallen flat with such an unneccessary and flat out boring story, sure the story kinda intermingles with Seraph and the Hand breaking their bonds, but mixed with poor visuals and just drawn out and filler added stories, we're left wondering what Way is going to do to amputate all the goodwill Deadpool has garnered lately when Way brings in the Merc with the Mouth next arc, cause surely I can't be the only one desperatley waiting for this useless arc to be over with. Sure Way can surprise us with chapter four and five, but I won't keep my hopes up
Till next month true believers
