X-Men Origins: Wolverine became the fourth consecutive X-Men movie to top the box office, pulling in an estimated $87 million over the weekend.
Wolverine posted the second best X-Men opening, trailing X-Men: The Last Stand, which had the benefit of the four-day Memorial Day weekend for its $104-million performance.
Of the 20 Marvel-based movies to reach theaters since 1998, 16 of them have opened No. 1. Wolverine figures to be the 14th to top $100 million and could become the seventh to reach $200 million.
Considering the Bad Economy and all the people that dont have the money to blow on films, the Swine Flu that seems to have people affraid of public area so they dont leave there houses and the film being leaked on the internet over a month ago it has done very well. I wonder if all these negitive things that came up had not, what could Wolverine's sales figures could have been. maybe enough to beat Iron Man, which opened with $102.3 million in the same weekend last year.
Wolverine opened in 4,099 theaters, a record for a 20th Century Fox release.
Ghosts of Girlfriends Past placed second at $15.3 million. The thriller "Obsessed" came in third with just over $12-million at the weekend box office.
According to Variety, X-Men Origins: Wolverine had by far the largest opening weekend in foreign box office this year with $73 million in 101 markets.
