Yeah, Kubert's art carried the first story. The only interesting bit was Yukio's observation (that Logan behaves like someone headed for a breakdown) and I hope part two follows up on that. Wolverine seems to throw himself into conflict after conflict with increasing frequency over the years, as though he's trying to maintain the momentum. It almsot feels like he's afraid that if he stops the weight of his experiences will crush him.
And you're exactly right about comic books taking months to depict what happens over a few days. That's why it takes four years real time to tell one year's worth of a superhero's life (resulting in them aging in "Marvel time"). My gripe isn't with how many stories Wolverine appears it - it's about what order they fall in! Here we have Wolverine confronting Cyber (before Daken kills him) around the same time the X-Men fight Mystique (but after the "Get Mystique" arc). Since Mavel hasn't used continuity footnotes for the last couple decades it makes it tough for die-hard Wolverine fanatics like me to put the events of his life in order.
Way's story seems like it was inspired by watching "Sons of Anarchy." (Which was a good show by the way: Hells Angels meet Hamlet).
