Review:
Wolverine Origins #4 (July 2006)
Where last months battle disappointed, it can be dismissed since it was just Nuke, but against a heavy weight like Captain America, two of the most prized fighters in comics, you’d think you’d get a brawl for the ages, instead…this is possibly the biggest let down in comic battles in recent memory. It wasn’t interesting nor any feeling that lives were at stake. Cap is fighting because the President asked him to, since when does Cap blindly go against an ally? Him and Wolverine go back 60 years you’d think Logan would have Steve’s benefit of the doubt? The fight was just senseless, stupid and boring. Captain America also wounds our hero with the sword, either unleashing a berserker rage or maybe an evil spirit in Wolverine. Nothing was shed on the past of Logan or anything, Cyclops, Emma and Hellion show up to bring the battle to an end before an enraged Logan finishes Cap, setting up this arcs merciful end. Once again, this arc, story and art will go down as one of the biggest disappointments in Wolverine lore for a very long time. This arc could have been done in issue #3 if written better and had better direction and pacing. Please Marvel…fix this!
Rating: Well, it’s not the worst

Wolverine Origins #4 - Released: July 12, 2006
********WARNING SPOILERS******
Its starts off great with Emma Frost exploring the mind of Wolverine and with out his permission. Emma finds who she thinks is Wolvie, but then she realizes that it isn’t, and that person stabs her with the Muramasa sword, great stuff. Wolverine and Captain America exchange blows and I must admit the fight scene could have been done better, but there were some great tactics by both fighters, Cap squeezing Wolverine’s forearms to injure him and Wolverine with the kick to Cap’s leg artery. So the writing of the fight was great, it just wasn’t translated to the pages well. When Cap finally uses the Muramasa blade on Wolvie, there is a scene where I’m not sure if Wolverine goes berserk or if his mind is being taken over, but I’m sure it will be revealed later. I am disappointed in the fact that there is FIVE pages of talking in the middle of the fight, that was a bit much. The final part of the battle was the best though, when Wolverine, tackles Cap, disarms his shield, punches his head, pulls on his arm, then disarms the Muramasa sword from him, now that’s the Wolvie I know, more proof that Wolverine always holds back. Although I can understand the holding back with Cap, they have such a history together. After Cap is disarmed he struggles to his feet and then collapses to the ground. Clearly a statement to who has more endurance, Wolverine takes this opportunity to try and kill Cap, but Cyclops, Hellion, Emma stop Wolvie. Wolverine in clearly the victor. The writing in my eyes was great, except the five pages of talking in the middle of the fight, if they talked while fighting that would have been so much better. The Cover art was fantastic on both covers this month, my hats off to Joe Q and Del’Otto. The art in the book is not that great, its better then it was in the past, but I think if we are stuck with Dillon, then we need a Inker, who can go in and darken it up and change the thickness of the lines, the color is a bit bright in some areas but is not bad. The list of comic reference sources is great in the back of the back, Way has done his homework.
Not bad, but not great: A decent read worth the asking price
So we learn that Wolvie isn’t they only one in his mind, so who is it, maybe Muramasa has lived so long by possessing people that weld his blades, or the blade is simply amplifying Wolvie’s evil side. Why was Emma in Wolvies mind in the first place? Cyclops and Emma I can see coming to help Wolvie, but Hellion, why? Oh, and Why in the back of the book did they list Wolverine #45, when #44 still has not come out? Also I was thinking and looking closer at Del’Otto’s Cover, he tells the whole story on the cover better then Dillon did in the whole book, think about it. Wolverine is berserk or possessed, he gets hurt by the Muramasa blade by Cap, but Wolvies on top, meaning he clearly is wining, that sums up the whole fight in one page better then Dillon’s 11 pages of fighting, what do you think?
